As I mentioned on my last post, soon I’ll move my blog to another server since I can’t post pictures on this one. Not that I got some pictures of mine scanned but there are places and things that I’d like to show you...
I don’t have that much news, as usual. Last Friday I went to the movie marathon. It was really NIFTY. They brought these short movies international festival to Rio in this edition of the marathon that was a little short than the others. It started at 11pm and was over at 5:30 am, it usually ends up at 6am, which is a perfect time since it’s when the subway starts running. I was by myself because all the people I invited were not able to go.
Now it’s official. I’m going to make the college entrance exam for a college here. You can’t believe how I love it. It’s the ONE school that goes on riot annually for distinct reasons. It’s just DREADFUL, but if that’s what my parents think is best for me there’s nothing left but to move on and pass that exam. Willingly or not.
It still surprises me how different life seems here, even though nothing has really changed. Now I’m aware of what living in a big city is really about. And surprisingly enough I still love it. On the first day I got on the subway I realized that living in a big city is having a moments by yourself, at least for me, what gives me two options watch other people live (which is lovely if you want to understand something about human behavior), or read. Lately I’ve been reading, now that I’m the surfer of subways and don’t need to hold on to anything and to stand still, but I’ve spent few years watching other people live, the way people walk, stare, every detail that goes unnoticed when they’re speaking or with a group of friends. =D
Now, yesterday for the first time since I got back I went to the beach. Yes, I did as a good “carioca” (native from Rio) and went there with a friend of mine. I’m starting to believe on what they say about cariocas and photosynthesis. The sun goes out and it’s hot and we get all a little “tawdry” to absorb all the sunlight with our skin. And believe it or not, on a busy Wednesday there were LOTS of people doing the same as us and going to the beach. So we went to Copacabana beach and we noticed how many people skipped school just to enjoy the sun. So, after finding a less crowded spot, we start talking about how easily noticeable gringos are and how odd looking and dressed too. So when the sun suddenly is covered but a tempestuous cloud we start walking and end up on Ipanema beach, where we meet some common friends and talk for like hours on that chilly weather. It was just hilarious. I really enjoyed but I still think that it’s time to move on and out of this city. I miss not knowing places and all that jazz that being a foreigner involves.
Last week I found out that they’re going to bring Chicago to São Paulo (Brazil’s economic heart) and that they’re casting people really older than I expected. All caRIOcas hate that city; they’re like Yankees to the old South for them. But since I’ve never been there I don’t have an exact position about it all, I’m just envy in some way since they’re bringing so many Broadway shows and not here, what is DREADFUL in my opnion. But anyway, I’m planning to go there next year to visit a Brazilian exchange student I met there, we became really good friends and all and she’s supposed to come here too since she liked the city when she came, by then I hope I have my driver’s license so we don’t need to take buses or subways.
I still hope that you people will send me more e-mail and I’d like to thank Mrs. Stoyer, John and David that send me e-mail, even really short ones just to say they’re doing fine or something like it.
